Coconut Coir "Sods" are providing innovative new ways to replant wetland plants

Coconut coir "sods" are planted with native emergent and submergent aquatic vegetation, allowed to grow out, and then taken into the field.

Allowing the plants to pre-root into the coconut coir mats reduces stress to the plant, while ensuring that the plants do not erode away. Hydraulic erosion is minimized because the coconut coir mat creates a biodegradable barrier for the substrate below.
